Everest Track

Wayyy back I wanted a track bike. That's a real track bike, not a ten speed conversion. I wanted something really good too. I had no idea what, but one day I went to a bike jumble in Canterbury or somewhere and came back with this frame. I had no idea what I was letting myself in for. It cost £160 and it was more than I was expecting to spend. The seller assured my it was good: I could see the lugwork looked fancy and the forks were round not oval. It felt damned light too.

It did come with a Campag open bearing bottom bracket and at the time I didn't have the right tools to remove. It went in the bin :( At the time I think I was mislead by articles online saying sealed bottom brackets were an improvement over open bearing. I would like to have kept that. I tried painting it with rattle cans but it wasn't a durable enough finish. I got it powder coated RAL9001 in East London - a great choice in retrospect. I've changed just about everything on it several times and it always works out great.

The bike has a smooth, de-luxe feel to it when riding. ATM I have bull-horns fitted and it feels like flying a fighter-jet! If you asked me what my favorite bike is, I'd reply what do you mean by favorite? But I think this one probably is.

At one point I retired it thinking it had served it's useful life. The Bianchi was intended as a replacement but no way as good. Long may the Everest Track Bike continue...
