It was a privilege to inherit my Uncle Ron's retirement present: an unbuilt Massi Mega Team with Shimano Ultegra groupset. It was my first Italian road bike and the first I was to build from parts. The level of craftsmanship is superb: the frame was designed in Spain by Massi and manufactured in Italy between 1998 and 2001. It has a chromed rear triangle and forks with a very striking paint job. The Columbus Brain tubing is lightweight and fillet brazed. It features a teardrop shaped down tube and diamond section seat stays. It's a real work of art and I regret (a bit) getting it resprayed.
I had to use a bit of guess work here and there as I didn't have access to the manuals. These days I have a micrometer and plenty of tools but back then I was just setting out. Anyhow it all came together and I began doing duathlons and triathlons on it. It is a beautiful bike to look at and ride. More recently I have contacted the manufacturer and got copies of the original catalogues. As far as I know, these are the only online copies available. Links are in the table above.
I've had the bike for about ten years and it's really too small for me. I've passed it on to Ron's grandchildren. I hope they enjoy riding it as much as I did!
